China Suárez reveals why Mauro Icardi is “forbidden” from joining Boca Juniors, as the Galatasaray striker discusses River Plate jokes, Newell’s dreams, and life changes since their relationship began.
Mauro Icardi has laughed off a light-hearted ultimatum from partner China Suárez, who insists the striker is “absolutely forbidden” from joining Boca Juniors if he ever returns to Argentine football.
The Galatasaray forward made a brief trip to Argentina and appeared on TV alongside Suárez in an interview with Mario Pergolini. The actress, a passionate River Plate supporter, immediately set the record straight about Icardi’s future.
“If he comes back, he goes to River. There’s no discussion. Boca? Absolutely forbidden,” she said, sparking laughter in the studio.
Pergolini, a well-known Boca fan, tried to get Icardi to react, but the striker deflected with a smile: “I’m from Newell’s, so I have nothing to do with it.”
Beyond the joking rivalry, Icardi spoke seriously about the idea of returning to Newell’s Old Boys, the club where he began his youth career before leaving for Europe. “They’ve called me several times to come back, but I still have some time left… I’ve spent my whole life in Europe since I was a kid,” he said, leaving the door open to a future homecoming.
The interview also touched on his personal life, including how his new relationship with Suárez—after his dramatic split from Wanda Nara—shaped his move to Turkey. “One of the things I asked for when I arrived in Turkey was not to stay in the team hotel. She wants me home all the time, we’re very clingy,” he admitted.
On the pitch, Icardi has rediscovered his scoring touch following a long injury. He has netted six goals in 11 Turkish Super League matches, despite often coming off the bench. He sits just two goals behind leading scorer Paul Onuachu as he pushes to challenge for the Golden Boot.
