Ademola Lookman has spoken of his pride and motivation after joining Atlético Madrid, insisting the move to Spain is the challenge he wanted at this stage of his career.
Ademola Lookman has wasted no time making his intentions clear after completing his move to Atlético Madrid. The Nigerian international has already turned the page on his time at Atalanta and is fully focused on helping Diego Simeone’s side address their long-standing creative issues in attack.
After briefly addressing Atalanta supporters following his departure, Lookman is now embracing life in Madrid. His arrival comes as a direct replacement for Giacomo Raspadori, who moved in the opposite direction to Bergamo as part of the deal between the two clubs.
Despite receiving a more lucrative financial offer from Fenerbahçe, the 28-year-old was determined to test himself in La Liga. The chance to play for Atlético, both competitively and stylistically, proved decisive.
Speaking in his first interview as an Atlético player, Lookman did not hide his excitement.
“It’s really special to be here, a real blessing. I’m very happy. This is an exceptional club. Atlético fans are special; they live and breathe football. Aupa Atleti!” said the former Europa League final MVP.
The forward is also aware that adaptation will be key. After several seasons in Italy, he now faces a new cultural and footballing environment in Spain.
“I like to learn, grow, and progress. This move is exactly what I was looking for. I believe I can keep improving. I’ve played in important leagues, and now I’m in another top league. A new country, a new language, it’s a new challenge,” he explained.
Atlético believes Lookman’s pace, directness, and ability to decide matches in the final third will add a new dimension to their attack. For the player himself, the message is clear: this move is not only about status, but about continuing his development at the highest level.
