The Dutch coach has been let go after only six months at the helm of the United Arab Emirates team.
Al-Ain of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) announced this Wednesday the dismissal of team coach Alfred Schreuder, just six months into his tenure after joining from Ajax Amsterdam last May.
The termination of the Dutch coach's contract (who was Koeman's assistant at Barça) is particularly surprising from a sporting perspective, as the team qualified last night for the round of 16 of the Asian Champions League, a feat never before achieved in the club's history.
The dismissal seems to be due to non-sporting reasons: Schreuder often did not utilize two significant recent signings, Omer Atzili and Matías Palacios. This may have contributed to the tough decision to terminate his services. The club itself states in a release that there is a "lack of cohesion between the coach and his squad."
