PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaïfi stated that winning the Champions League isn’t the team’s main goal, emphasizing identity-building and confidence in Luis Enrique’s project.
Paris Saint-Germain unveiled its cutting-edge training facility, the Campus Paris Saint-Germain, on Thursday in Poissy. The state-of-the-art complex features 16 natural grass football fields and will serve as a central hub for all PSG teams, offering world-class amenities and services.
At the event, club president Nasser Al-Khelaïfi addressed PSG’s current state and their ambitions for the season, surprisingly stating that winning the Champions League is not among the team’s primary goals this year.
"It’s not an objective. But let me say this: we play every game to win. We don’t want to add that pressure. We have a young team, and we need to be realistic. We also didn’t have much luck with the draw. But that’s football," said Al-Khelaïfi, referencing the team’s 1-1 draw with PSV in their penultimate group-stage match at the Parc des Princes.
On PSG’s style of play under Luis Enrique, Al-Khelaïfi emphasized the importance of building an identity rather than copying other teams. "Copy Barça? I don’t think we want to copy anyone. We’re building our identity, and it’s coming from our young players. Look at the fields where our youth are playing; they know how the first team plays," he explained. "We have experienced players and young ones. The goal isn’t to win the Champions League this year, but to develop our style."
When asked about potential signings in the upcoming January transfer window, Al-Khelaïfi dismissed the idea but left the door open for opportunities. "Honestly, as of today, no. But I don’t know what might happen if opportunities arise. We talk with the coach, but right now, no. We trust our players. We’re not in a rush," he clarified.
The PSG president also reiterated his confidence in Luis Enrique, even if the team fails to advance to the next round of the Champions League. "We won’t change anything. We have a lot of confidence in our coach. He’s doing a very good job with Luis Campos. Will we extend his contract? I’m confident," said Al-Khelaïfi.
