The PSG president ranks victory at Anfield as one of the club’s greatest European moments.
Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi was full of praise for his team after their Champions League Round of 16 triumph over Liverpool, calling it one of the best, if not the best, nights in the club’s European history.
Speaking to CBS, Al-Khelaifi reflected on the significance of PSG’s win at Anfield, a stadium revered for its Champions League heritage.
"I think it’s one of the best, if not the best," he said. "[It was at] Anfield, and to win against Liverpool—the best club in Europe today. They finished first in the league phase and are the Premier League leaders. I think it’s something very, very special, honestly."
Where does this victory rank in PSG’s Champions League history?
Since QSI’s takeover in 2011, PSG have enjoyed several landmark moments in the Champions League, including their 2020 final appearance against Bayern Munich. However, this latest victory over Liverpool felt unique, particularly given the circumstances.
Despite a 1-0 first-leg defeat in Paris, PSG remained composed, delivered a fearless second-leg performance, and held their nerve in a historic penalty shootout—the first ever in the club’s Champions League history.
With PSG now firmly in the quarter-finals, Al-Khelaifi and the club will hope this result serves as a springboard for the elusive Champions League title.
