Alan Shearer criticizes Rasmus Højlund’s form, calling the Manchester United striker unprepared and low on confidence after a disappointing Premier League performance.
Rasmus Højlund is facing growing scrutiny after another underwhelming display in Manchester United’s recent Premier League match against Wolves, which ended in a frustrating 0–0 draw for the Red Devils.
Legendary striker Alan Shearer didn’t hold back when assessing the Danish forward’s performance. “When I watch Højlund, I see a damaged striker. He wasn’t ready—and still isn’t—to lead the line for a club like Manchester United,” said the Premier League’s all-time top scorer.
The criticism comes just days after United’s dramatic 5–4 Europa League comeback against Lyon, but Shearer focused on Højlund’s domestic form: “Three goals in the Premier League... At the moment, I see a player who doesn’t really want to be involved. His timing is completely off, and there’s no doubt he’s battling a confidence crisis.”
Despite his €74 million price tag, the 21-year-old has struggled to meet expectations, with Shearer suggesting that the weight of the transfer fee and unrealistic demands have only made things harder: “He’s been put in a really tough situation. I do think there’s a good player in there, but he’s under massive pressure and just isn’t ready to lead the line.”
United managed just two shots on target against Wolves at Old Trafford, further underlining the team’s ongoing attacking issues.
