Alberto Riera explains how Bayern’s aggressive style could benefit Real Madrid in Champions League clash at the Bernabeu.
Real Madrid faces Bayern Munich tonight at the Santiago Bernabeu, and Alberto Riera has already pointed out where the game could be decided.
The former coach, who recently faced Bayern with Eintracht, believes their aggressive approach could work in Real Madrid’s favor.
Riera described a team built on intensity and pressure.
“They press from the first minute, even from the warm-up. They cover every inch of the pitch and rely heavily on one-on-one situations.”
Bayern plays with confidence and physical strength, but that style comes with risks.
According to Riera, their high defensive line often leaves space behind, especially around defenders like Dayot Upamecano.
That is exactly where Real Madrid thrives.
Alvaro Arbeloa’s team is most dangerous when attacking space, using speed and direct runs to punish aggressive opponents.
Riera sees this as a clear tactical advantage.
“Real Madrid feel comfortable when players can run into space and fight for the ball. Bayern’s style suits them.”
He also pointed out what could cause problems for the Spanish side.
“It would be more difficult if they played against a low block, but Bayern don’t play that way.”
This creates a familiar scenario.
Real Madrid has repeatedly eliminated Bayern Munich in recent years, often exploiting exactly these spaces in transition.
The key question now is whether Arbeloa will fully adapt his plan to exploit that weakness.
If Real Madrid manages to break the press and attack quickly, the tie could tilt in their favor early.
Kick-off is set for 21:00, with another chapter of this historic European rivalry about to unfold.
