Juventus footballer Alisha Lehmann has voiced her frustration about the significant pay gap between herself and her partner, Douglas Luiz.
The Swiss footballer Alisha Lehmann has expressed dissatisfaction with the "unfair" wage difference between male and female footballers.
Lehmann is one of the most popular female footballers in the world, with an Instagram following of 17 million people.
She is in a relationship with Brazilian international Douglas Luiz, and both signed for Juventus this season after moving from Aston Villa, a move Lehmann described to Germany's Bild as "a dream come true."
However, their transfers were financially very different. Luiz, who was a key player in Villa’s midfield last season, transferred for €50 million on a five-year contract, while Lehmann, according to Italy's La Repubblica, joined for just €50,000.
Lehmann discussed this inequality with her partner:
"After training, I often tell Douglas that it’s not fair. We do the same job, but he earns 100,000 times more than I do. This affects me because I’m a woman," said Lehmann.
Since joining Juventus, Lehmann has scored one goal in two matches, while Luiz has made three substitute appearances.
