Alisson says Liverpool are likely to trigger his contract extension but admits he's approaching a ‘decisive moment’ with the 2026 World Cup fast approaching.
Alisson Becker has admitted that he's approaching a critical point in his career as his Liverpool contract winds down, but insists he expects to remain at Anfield with the club likely to exercise a one-year extension.
The 32-year-old Brazilian has been Liverpool's first-choice goalkeeper since joining from Roma in 2018 for a world-record fee at the time. In seven seasons, he’s helped deliver Premier League and Champions League trophies and is widely considered one of the league’s greatest goalkeepers.
Alisson’s current deal expires in 2026, but Liverpool hold an option for an extra year, which he believes will be activated. Speaking to the Brazilian press, Alisson said: "Obviously now I have one year left on my contract and another year of club option, which they will probably exercise. It’s a decisive moment in my career, with a World Cup coming up."
He also added: "I want to be very focused, I don’t want anything external to get in the way."
Alisson’s future has become a hot topic with the 2026 World Cup in the USA looming. Despite speculation, he doesn’t see himself leaving Anfield soon—though he dreams of one day returning to his boyhood club Internacional in Brazil. "I want to return, especially to Inter. I don’t know when it will happen, but I still want to do it at a high level," he revealed.
Liverpool have made moves to prepare for the future. Caoimhin Kelleher has been sold to Brentford for £18 million, while the Reds secured Giorgi Mamardashvili from Valencia in a £30 million deal—he will join officially on July 1. In addition, 20-year-old Armin Pecsi has arrived from Puskas Akademia for a Hungarian record fee of £1.5 million.
While there's no immediate sign of Alisson departing, Liverpool’s forward planning shows they’re preparing for life after their Brazilian No.1—whether that comes in one year or three.
