Manuel Neuer is set to extend his Bayern contract until 2027, accept a lower salary, and gradually hand over the role to rising goalkeeper Jonas Urbig.
Manuel Neuer has made a major decision about his future and once again shown his loyalty to Bayern Munich. Even at the age of 40, the legendary goalkeeper plans to stay at the club he has led since 2011.
According to German media, his agent Thomas Kroth has already held talks with Bayern Munich officials, and the direction is clear. Neuer is expected to sign a new contract until the summer of 2027, but under different terms than before.
The biggest change is financial.
Neuer, who currently earns around 20 million euros per year, is ready to accept a salary reduction in order to remain part of the project.
The plan also includes a gradual transition inside the squad.
Jonas Urbig, who joined from Köln in January, is expected to take on a bigger role next season. The young goalkeeper has already made 16 appearances this year and is seen as the long-term successor to the German icon.
Neuer has been a pillar of Bayern for 15 years.
He arrived in Munich in 2011 from Schalke and has since made 596 appearances, which places him fifth in the club’s all-time list.
With a new deal, he could soon overtake legends such as Gerd Müller (613 appearances) and Oliver Kahn (632 appearances).
The official confirmation is expected soon.
