Antonio Cassano sharply criticised Massimiliano Allegri, claiming the Milan coach will be “forgotten like Mourinho” despite leading Serie A. He believes Milan’s style betrays the club’s identity.

Antonio Cassano has once again launched a fierce attack on Massimiliano Allegri, claiming the Milan coach will “end up like Mourinho — forgotten by everyone.” The former Italy international voiced his criticism on his podcast Viva El Football, insisting that Allegri’s style does not reflect the Rossoneri’s identity.

Milan currently sit at the top of Serie A with 28 points, but Cassano argues that their football bears no resemblance to what the club has historically stood for.

“Remember what I said about Mourinho — that he was finished and would eventually be forgotten. The same will happen to Allegri,” said the former forward who played for Roma, Real Madrid, Inter and Milan.

Cassano remains one of the harshest critics of Allegri’s pragmatic approach, which he believes is unworthy of Milan’s tradition and symbolism.

“Milan means history, beauty, aesthetics, quality. And what are they doing? Everyone is standing in front of the goalkeeper, no depth, no ideas,” he said in his usual sharp tone.

Interestingly, during his long career, Cassano won just one scudetto — in 2011 — under none other than Allegri. Despite that, he shows no hesitation in delivering strong criticism.

Cassano has attacked Mourinho before: “He was never a great coach”

Cassano has taken aim at many major figures in world football during his post-playing career — including Cristiano Ronaldo — but he was especially merciless towards José Mourinho and his time at Roma.

Two years ago, Cassano publicly stated his belief that Mourinho’s coaching career was a “big deception.”

“Mourinho was never a great coach; he just knew how to play with the media and was an excellent communicator. He knows how to work with strong players, not with those who aren’t very good. It’s too easy to be nice to great players,” Cassano said.
