Atlético Madrid are preparing major January changes, with Thiago Almada and Giacomo Raspadori both placed on the market just months after arriving for nearly €50m combined.

Major changes are underway at Atlético Madrid, and the January transfer window could bring a surprising shake-up. Despite spending heavily last summer, the Spanish giants are now ready to part ways with two recent signings worth close to €50 million combined.

The club has undergone significant structural changes in recent months. Atlético recently welcomed new majority owners from the United States, while former Barcelona executive Mateu Alemany has taken over as sporting director. With a new hierarchy in place, attention has turned to how Atlético will reshape their squad—and early signs point to a clear-out before any major reinforcements arrive.

Early exits already underway

Two players have already left. Winger Carlos Martín, who struggled for minutes, has joined Rayo Vallecano on loan. Meanwhile, full-back Javi Galán has completed a permanent move to Osasuna.

However, the most striking decisions are yet to come.

Almada and Raspadori on the market

Atlético are now actively listening to offers for Thiago Almada and Giacomo Raspadori, despite both players arriving only last summer.

Almada joined from Botafogo in a deal worth €21 million, while Raspadori arrived from Napoli for €22 million. Expectations were high, but neither has fully convinced.

Raspadori has scored three goals for Atlético so far—none in La Liga—while Almada has managed two goals in 16 appearances across all competitions. Although Almada’s performances have shown flashes of quality, they have not been enough to secure his place in the long-term project.

Possible destinations already emerging

Raspadori is reported to be close to a move to Roma, while interest in Almada is growing in South America, with Palmeiras monitoring the situation closely.

If both departures are completed, Atlético would effectively be undoing much of their summer investment—an unmistakable sign that the club’s new leadership is prepared to take decisive, even ruthless, action in reshaping the squad.
