Julián Álvarez denied feeling a double touch after his penalty was disallowed, leaving Atlético Madrid in disbelief following their Champions League exit against Real Madrid.
The shock and frustration in Atlético Madrid’s dressing room were palpable after their dramatic Champions League round of 16 elimination at the hands of Real Madrid. The match ended in controversy when Julián Álvarez’s penalty was ruled out due to an alleged double touch, a decision that continued to fuel heated debates long after the game at the Metropolitano.
According to Marca, Álvarez addressed his teammates in the dressing room and firmly stated: "I didn’t feel like I touched the ball twice."
He explained that the ball went exactly where he intended, insisting that he had already sent Thibaut Courtois the wrong way before the call was made.
Atlético players were left furious, especially as there is reportedly no clear footage proving the double touch. This sense of injustice was reinforced by Diego Simeone, who voiced his frustration during the post-match press conference, questioning why there was no conclusive replay of the incident.
