AC Milan coach Ruben Amorim praised Luka Modrić's humility ahead of the Milan derby, insisting the Croatian legend will earn his place like every other player.

AC Milan head coach Ruben Amorim has praised Luka Modrić's professionalism and humility ahead of the pre-season derby against Inter Milan, revealing that the Croatian midfielder prefers to stay out of the spotlight despite his legendary status.
Speaking at his pre-match press conference, Amorim first paid tribute to club icon Franco Baresi, whose recent passing has deeply affected the Rossoneri.
"We will continue his legacy," Amorim said before turning his attention to his squad and the upcoming Derby della Madonnina.
The Portuguese coach expressed satisfaction with the atmosphere inside the dressing room and praised the attitude of his players, including Rafael Leão.
"I have the feeling that all the players are doing very well, both those who have been with us since day one and those who joined later. Rafa Leão is lucky to be at a club like Milan, and he should be happy. I feel that he is happy and motivated."
Amorim also confirmed that Modrić will feature against Inter as Milan continue to build match fitness during a demanding pre-season schedule.
"Modrić will play tomorrow too. Everyone will get minutes in the derby. We don't have much time to train because the matches come one after another, so we have to improve through games. We will try to manage everyone's workload."
The Milan coach reserved special praise for the Croatian captain's character.
"Luka is extremely modest and doesn't like the attention he gets. He has enormous experience, and I will treat him like every other player. He will have to fight for his place, but of course he is special. We invested a lot to keep him with us for at least another season, and I am delighted to have him."
Amorim also dismissed concerns about Milan's transfer business, insisting he already has a squad capable of competing at the highest level.
"I'm very happy with the squad I have. We are building our style of play. We have plans in the transfer market, but sometimes they happen, and sometimes they don't. If we start the season with this group, I'm convinced we'll be competitive and capable of winning every match."
Asked which club football fans in Australia should support, Amorim left no room for debate.
"My answer is simple, Milan. Inter have won more in recent years, but Milan is Milan. This club represents something that cannot be bought. Ever since I was a child, it has always been Milan. Watch the history of this club, and you'll understand why."
