Spanish midfielder Ander Herrera fulfilled a lifelong dream by joining Boca Juniors, expressing his excitement about playing at La Bombonera and embracing the club’s culture.
Ander Herrera has been officially unveiled as a new Boca Juniors player, fulfilling what he described as a long-held dream of playing in Argentina. The former Manchester United and PSG midfielder expressed his excitement at the opportunity, stating: "I've imagined many times what it would be like to play at La Bombonera. One day, when I retire, I can proudly say that I've played for Boca."
The 35-year-old Spanish midfielder, who will wear the iconic number 21 jersey, highlighted that the financial aspect of his contract was not a concern, as his primary motivation was to wear Boca’s blue and gold. Herrera credited club president Juan Román Riquelme and manager Fernando Gago for making his move possible, adding that their support played a crucial role in his decision.
During his official presentation at Boca’s training facility in Ezeiza, Riquelme, whom Herrera has often called his football idol, warmly welcomed him, stating: "We are very happy to say that you are now a 'Bostero'."
Herrera already made his debut for Boca in a 5-0 Copa Argentina victory against Argentino de Monte Maíz and is expected to feature in the upcoming Liga Profesional Apertura opener against Argentinos Juniors at La Bombonera.
Looking ahead, the Spanish midfielder acknowledged that the end of his career is approaching but remains eager to contribute, taking things "step by step, game by game." He expressed excitement about potentially playing in the Copa Libertadores and FIFA Club World Cup, emphasizing the need to focus on immediate challenges first.
Herrera also praised Boca's playing style under Gago, stating that the team aims to play possession-based, attacking football, while remaining prepared for the physical demands of Argentine football.
