Andraž Šporar praises Manchester United’s new coach Rúben Amorim as the most intense and detail-oriented coach of his career, believing he can bring success to Old Trafford.
Andraž Šporar, the Slovenian international and current Panathinaikos striker, had the unique opportunity to work with Rúben Amorim during his time at Sporting Lisbon. Šporar joined the Portuguese giants in January 2020 after a prolific stint at Slovan Bratislava, becoming one of the few Slovenians to represent a Portuguese powerhouse, alongside names like Zlatko Zahovič, Jan Oblak, and Miran Pavlin.
Amorim took charge of Sporting just as Šporar arrived, beginning the transformation that would lead the club to two league titles under his guidance. Reflecting on his time under Amorim, Šporar described him as the most intense and meticulous coach he’s ever worked with.
"He was the most intense coach of my career. Sometimes, when a coach has been at a club for a long time, they don’t oversee every detail in training. But Amorim was involved in everything—he monitored every exercise, counted every movement, and motivated everyone constantly. Every day, all the time, he pushes you forward, and as a player, you feel better because of it. That makes the difference," Šporar explained for Nogomania.
Šporar believes that Amorim’s coaching style and attention to detail could bring success to Manchester United:
"Sporting players have an incredible game rhythm and maintain high intensity. He’s an excellent coach. I believe he can lift Manchester United, even though I don’t know the situation there. It doesn’t surprise me that he’s made it this far."
During his time at Sporting, Šporar made 38 appearances and scored 11 goals, contributing to the foundation of the team that Amorim would later lead to glory.
