Andy Robertson has opened up about life under Arne Slot and shared a light-hearted jab at Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher after the Reds' 2-0 win over Real Madrid in the Champions League. Goals from Alexis Mac Allister and Cody Gakpo secured a vital victory that guaranteed Liverpool a play-off spot in the revamped competition.
In a post-match interview with CBS, Robertson discussed the evolving tactical demands under Slot, his pivotal role in the game, and the playful reactions in the dressing room to Carragher’s recent comments about Mohamed Salah.
Tactical Evolution Under Arne Slot
Robertson has adapted to Slot’s dynamic system, rotating regularly with Kostas Tsimikas this season. Speaking on the tactical changes, Robertson explained:
"We’re deeper sometimes, overlapping and underlapping at others. Every game is different, and it’s been a joy to learn new things even at 30. The analysts prepare us so well."
The Scotland captain also reflected on conceding a penalty for a foul on Kylian Mbappe, which was ultimately saved by Caoimhin Kelleher:
"I think it’s soft. I left my leg in a little bit, but thankfully Caoimh stepped up. I think he was getting bored, so I gave him something to do!"
Dressing Room Banter Over Carragher
Robertson took the opportunity to poke fun at Carragher, who had criticized Salah for discussing his contract situation publicly during a crucial week for Liverpool. The Egyptian star’s future remains unresolved, with his contract expiring next summer.
"He’s been getting a bit of stick in the dressing room this week, that’s for sure!" Robertson told presenter Kate Abdo, as Carragher laughed. He added:
"Carra gets paid to give his opinion, whether we agree with it or not is a different story!"
The banter continued as Robertson teased Carragher about a future in punditry: "Your show looks light-hearted. Maybe after a few more years, I’ll give you a call."
