Once Barcelona's golden boy, Ansu Fati, is set to join Monaco on loan with an option to buy, ending a difficult chapter at the Camp Nou after years of injury struggles.
Ansu Fati, once hailed as the future of Barcelona and heir to Lionel Messi’s legendary No.10 shirt, is on the verge of leaving La Liga to revive his career in Ligue 1.
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Barcelona and AS Monaco have reached a verbal agreement for a loan deal with a buy option. The deal includes a buy-back clause for Barcelona, as well as a future resale percentage if Fati is sold elsewhere.
Fati, 21, endured another difficult season in Catalonia, managing just 11 appearances without scoring or assisting. Once valued at €80 million in 2021, his market value has since dropped to €5 million, reflecting a steep decline after a series of injuries derailed his development.
Barcelona had once invested their faith in him by giving him the iconic No.10 jersey following Messi’s departure. But that chapter is now closing, with Lamine Yamal—the new teenage sensation—set to inherit the number starting in the 2025/26 season.
For Fati, Monaco presents a fresh start and the chance to return to the Champions League stage. For Barcelona, it’s a bittersweet farewell to a player who once embodied their future, now looking for a second wind abroad.
