Argentina defeated Canada 2-0 in the Copa America semi-final, with Argentine captain Lionel Messi being named the player of the match.

Argentina justified their role as favorites in the Copa America semi-final by defeating Canada 2-0, advancing to the tournament final where they will defend their title. Canada proved to be a tough opponent, but the victory for Argentina was secured by World Cup heroes Julian Alvarez and Lionel Messi.

Alvarez gave Argentina the lead in the 22nd minute with an assist from Rodrigo De Paul. Messi scored in the 51st minute, redirecting a shot from Enzo Fernandez to score his first goal of the tournament. This was Messi's 109th goal for Argentina, placing him second on the all-time international goal-scoring list, behind Cristiano Ronaldo, who has scored 130 goals for Portugal.

"What this team has achieved is crazy. For all of us from the old guard, it's more than incredible to be in the final again," said Messi after the match, who was named the player of the match for his performance.

Argentina will face the winner of the Uruguay vs. Colombia match in the final. If they win, Argentina will become the first team in football history since Spain to win three major tournaments in a row.

Spain achieved this between 2008 and 2012, winning two World Cups and one European Championship.
