Arsenal have reportedly completed one of the biggest transfers of the summer after reaching an agreement with Newcastle United for Brazilian midfielder Bruno Guimaraes.
According to reports from the BBC and L'Equipe, the two clubs have finally settled the details of the transfer after weeks of negotiations. Only the official announcement now remains before Guimaraes becomes an Arsenal player.
The total value of the deal is expected to reach €93 million, including performance-related bonuses. The Brazilian international has already agreed personal terms with Arsenal and is set to sign a contract running until the summer of 2031.
The 28-year-old midfielder is expected to travel to London before the end of the week to complete his medical examination and finalize the paperwork.
Newcastle are scheduled to leave for their pre-season training camp in Spain on Friday, but reports indicate Guimaraes will not travel with the squad. Instead, he will head to the Emirates to complete the biggest move of his career.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has made strengthening his midfield a priority as the club prepares for another season challenging on multiple fronts.
After finally ending a wait of more than two decades to win the Premier League title, Arsenal are now determined to take the next step by conquering Europe. Winning the UEFA Champions League has become the club's primary objective for the upcoming campaign.
To make room for new arrivals, Arteta has already reshaped parts of his squad, allowing several players to leave during the summer transfer window.
Guimaraes has been one of Arsenal's top transfer targets throughout the summer, alongside Vinicius Junior and Julian Alvarez. Reports suggest the London club remains interested in both attacking stars, although club officials are aware that completing all three blockbuster deals in the same window will be extremely difficult.
The signing of Guimaraes nevertheless represents a major statement of intent. One of the Premier League's most accomplished midfielders, the Brazilian brings leadership, creativity and defensive quality to an Arsenal side determined to compete for every major trophy.
With the transfer now reportedly agreed, Arsenal supporters are waiting only for the club's official confirmation before welcoming another marquee signing to the Emirates Stadium.
