Liverpool could be crowned Premier League champions tonight—before they even play—if Arsenal slip up at home to Crystal Palace in their midweek fixture.
Liverpool are on the brink of clinching the Premier League title, and they could be confirmed as champions as early as tonight—depending on the result of Arsenal vs Crystal Palace at the Emirates Stadium.
Arne Slot’s side extended their lead at the top to 13 points after Sunday’s gritty win over Leicester City, thanks to a late winner from Trent Alexander-Arnold. With just five matches remaining, the title is now within touching distance.
Arsenal, Liverpool’s closest challengers, kept their hopes alive with a weekend win at Ipswich. However, if they lose to Crystal Palace tonight, they will no longer be able to mathematically catch Liverpool—handing the Reds the crown before they play their next match.
The midweek clash was brought forward due to Crystal Palace’s FA Cup semi-final this weekend, setting up the possibility of a title being decided off the pitch once again—just like in 2020, when Liverpool’s triumph was confirmed by a Manchester City loss and not a win of their own.
Virgil van Dijk confirmed the squad will be watching together: “We’ll be together, and if it happens, it happens. But we’re focused on our job for the weekend too.”
If Arsenal win or draw, Liverpool will need to secure the title on the pitch—likely in their next fixture against Tottenham at Anfield on Sunday, where a home celebration awaits.
