Arsenal’s U19 team suffered a heavy defeat against their Italian opponents, but a young player, just 14 years and 8 months old, made history by getting on the scoresheet for the London side.
In the UEFA Youth League, today’s match saw the U20 team of Atalanta face off against the U19 squad of Arsenal, with the Bergamo side coming out on top with a 4-1 win. Goals for Atalanta were scored by Artesani, Steffanoni, Comi, and Fiogbe. On Arsenal’s side, the lone goal came from a player who is just 14 years old!
Max Dowman, an offensive midfielder for Arsenal, found the back of the net and became the youngest scorer in the history of the elite competition (14 years and 8 months).
Dowman surpassed the previous record set by Youssoufa Moukoko, who in 2019 was three months older when he scored for Borussia Dortmund’s youth team against AC Milan. The third place is held by Lyon’s talented winger Rayan Cherki.
Dowman is already highly regarded at Arsenal, where he frequently trains with the senior squad. Physically advanced for his age, he also excels on the right wing and regularly shines in youth categories, often competing against players five to six years older. Notably, he debuted for England’s U17 national team earlier this year, in February.
