Former Arsenal and Liverpool midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has been without a club for over three months and is currently training with Arsenal’s reserve team as he awaits his next move.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, once considered one of England’s brightest midfield talents, has now been without a club for more than three months. The 30-year-old is currently training with Arsenal’s reserve team to maintain fitness while he waits for an offer.
Oxlade-Chamberlain caused headlines in 2017 when he left Arsenal for Liverpool in a transfer worth €38 million. The move to a direct Premier League rival generated huge attention, and to this day, it remains Arsenal’s record player sale. Surprisingly, the second-highest sale is still Nicolas Anelka to Real Madrid for €35 million back in 1999.
After leaving Liverpool in 2022, Oxlade-Chamberlain joined Beşiktaş in Turkey. However, his time there was disrupted by recurring injuries, and his contract was terminated in August — one year before its expiry. Since then, he has been a free agent.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta, who once played alongside Oxlade-Chamberlain, opened the club’s doors to help his former teammate stay match fit:
“Alex is a brilliant lad, one of the best you’ll find in football. I’m delighted we’ve been able to give him the training he needs and keep him in top form. Our young lads can learn a lot from him. I know he’ll be a great role model for them.”
Despite his setbacks, Oxlade-Chamberlain is still seen as a player who can offer experience and versatility. His next move may depend on January transfer activity, with several clubs monitoring his situation.
