The match, organised by Botafogo fans, was meant to be a light-hearted local fixture. But when one of the opposing players made a strong tackle on Gabriel’s father’s teammate, the defender — watching from the stands — leapt to his feet and stormed onto the pitch. He confronted the player responsible, shouting furiously in Portuguese before being restrained.
The game was reportedly abandoned shortly after the incident, with witnesses claiming Gabriel’s reaction caught everyone by surprise. The video quickly spread across social media, where English fans jokingly noted that he didn’t look injured at all as he sprinted onto the field.
Gabriel is currently recovering from a thigh muscle injury and is expected to return to Mikel Arteta’s squad in January. Arsenal are dealing with several fitness problems across the defence, but remain top of the Premier League and strong contenders in the Champions League.
