Mikel Arteta calls PSG vs Bayern the best match he has seen, but explains why Arsenal and English clubs cannot match that style due to physical demands.
Mikel Arteta openly praised the Champions League semi-final clash between PSG and Bayern, describing it as the best match he has ever watched.
The Arsenal manager admitted he would like his team to play similarly, but believes English clubs face different conditions.
“PSG against Bayern was the best match I’ve ever seen. The quality was at an incredible level,” Arteta said.
Different conditions in England
According to Arteta, the key difference lies in physical preparation and match scheduling.
“The main reason for such a match is freshness. That is the biggest difference between leagues. The data support this. We compete in completely different environments.”
He pointed out that clubs in France and Germany often have more time to recover between matches, which allows for a more open and intense style of play.
This has been a common criticism aimed at Arsenal, with some observers claiming the team does not play with enough freedom.
Title race remains the priority
Despite those discussions, Arteta remains focused on results. Arsenal is still leading the Premier League title race.
The team holds a three-point advantage with a game in hand and four matches remaining: Fulham, West Ham, Burnley, and Crystal Palace.
At the same time, Arsenal is also competing in Europe. The first leg of the Champions League semi-final against Atletico Madrid in Spain ended in a 1-1 draw.
If Arteta delivers the league title, the style debate will likely lose importance, with results speaking louder than criticism.
