Ollie Watkins suffered a gruesome head injury against Nottingham Forest but continued playing and scored a crucial goal for Aston Villa in the Europa League semi-final.

Ollie Watkins showed remarkable determination after suffering a brutal head injury during Aston Villa’s Europa League semi-final clash against Nottingham Forest.

The England striker was left covered in blood after a sickening collision with Forest defender Morato during a first-half corner at Villa Park.

The incident happened in the 26th minute as both players attacked the ball aggressively inside the penalty area.

Watkins immediately dropped to the ground holding his face, while Morato, who had already received a yellow card earlier in the match, also remained down after the heavy clash of heads.

Medical staff from both teams rushed onto the pitch, and Aston Villa’s medics briefly prepared a stretcher as concern quickly spread around the stadium.

At first glance, the injury appeared serious enough to raise concussion concerns, especially after Watkins developed a visible swelling on his forehead almost immediately.

However, doctors focused primarily on the deep cut above his eye, eventually clearing him to continue after extensive treatment and heavy bandaging.

The decision proved crucial for Villa.

Just minutes later, Watkins fought through the pain to score the goal that leveled the tie on aggregate.

The striker converted from close range after an excellent cross from Emiliano Buendia, before celebrating by circling his hand around his head in reference to the injury.

The goal completely changed the atmosphere inside Villa Park, with the hosts continuing their push toward the Europa League final.

The frightening moment came only days after another serious head injury involving a Nottingham Forest player.

Forest captain Morgan Gibbs-White recently suffered a major facial cut during the match against Chelsea, an injury severe enough to require a custom-made protective mask.

Gibbs-White was only fit enough for the bench against Villa, with James McAtee replacing him in the starting lineup.

In the end, Aston Villa completed a dominant comeback and secured their place in the Europa League final.
