Atletico Madrid imposes a lifetime ban on a fan who threw objects at Thibaut Courtois during the derby against Real Madrid, with more bans expected.
Atletico Madrid announced on Monday that they have imposed a lifetime ban on a fan identified by police for throwing objects onto the field during the recent derby match against Real Madrid.
The match was halted for 20 minutes as Atletico fans targeted Thibaut Courtois, Real Madrid's goalkeeper, with objects after Real took the lead in the second half. Despite the disruption, Atletico managed to secure a 1-1 draw with Angel Correa scoring in stoppage time.
Atletico Madrid's security department continues to work with the police to identify other individuals involved, who will also face permanent bans from the stadium, the club said in a statement.
The club also announced that they would ban the use of any items or clothing that could conceal a person's identity inside the stadium as part of their security measures.
Atletico, currently sitting fourth in La Liga, will travel to face Benfica in the Champions League on Wednesday.
