Atletico Madrid beat Barcelona 2-0 at Camp Nou, punishing key mistakes and taking a strong advantage into the second leg of the Champions League quarter-final.

Atletico Madrid delivered a clinical performance at Camp Nou, defeating Barcelona 2-0 in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-finals.

Barcelona started the match with intent, controlling possession and creating several promising situations in dangerous areas, but Atletico withstood the early pressure.

The first turning point came in the 30th minute, when David Hančko was forced off due to injury, briefly disrupting the visitors’ defensive structure.

Shortly after, Lamine Yamal produced an excellent individual run, yet the breakthrough goal still did not arrive.

The match then shifted dramatically just before half-time.

Pau Cubarsí committed a foul that resulted in a red card, leaving Barcelona with ten players at the worst possible moment.

From the resulting free kick, Julian Alvarez stepped up and struck from the edge of the penalty area, scoring a precise goal to give Atletico a 1-0 lead.

The goal stunned the home side, and Atletico Madrid went into the break with a valuable advantage.

Despite being a man down, Barcelona approached the second half with courage, pushing forward in search of an equalizer.

However, Atletico struck again.

In the 70th minute, Alexander Sørloth found space behind Martin and finished after a cross from Matteo Ruggeri, doubling the lead to 2-0.

Hansi Flick reacted immediately, introducing Ferran Torres and Ronald Araújo in an attempt to change the momentum.

Barcelona continued to press, and in the 79th minute, João Cancelo came close to scoring, but his effort struck the post.

In the closing stages, Atletico Madrid remained disciplined, absorbing pressure and protecting their lead to secure a major away victory.

The result leaves Barcelona facing a difficult task in the return leg, while Atletico take a strong advantage into the second match.
