Pau Cubarsí will return to Barcelona after injury, as the Spanish FA finally allows his early release from national duty, ahead of the Osasuna clash.

Barcelona have confirmed that Pau Cubarsí will return early from international duty after sustaining an injury in Spain’s 2-2 draw with the Netherlands. The young defender will now continue his recovery at the club ahead of the La Liga fixture against Osasuna on March 27.

Coach Luis de la Fuente initially hoped to count on Cubarsí for the return leg against the Dutch this Sunday, but further medical tests confirmed the 18-year-old would not recover in time. The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) had previously insisted on keeping him in camp, delaying his release.

With Barcelona short on options for the upcoming league fixture—and many players returning late from international duty—the decision to send Cubarsí home is a relief for coach Hansi Flick, who will now have a few extra days to prepare him.

Crucial timing ahead of Osasuna clash

Barcelona will face Osasuna in just five days, a fixture that has already caused frustration due to its rescheduling. Some players will return to Spain the night before the match, but Cubarsí’s early return gives the club at least one defensive boost.

Cubarsí may still be in recovery mode, but every additional day counts, and Barcelona’s medical team will now oversee his rehabilitation with Osasuna and other key matches in mind.

It’s easy to forget that Cubarsí is still only 18 years old. Yet, he has already become a crucial figure for both Barcelona and Spain, underlining his rapid rise and importance in the heart of defence.
