In Spain, the final playoff match for promotion to La Liga was held yesterday, determining the last participant for the 2024/25 season.
The Spanish second division is an extremely demanding and lengthy competition, as evidenced by the fact that it officially concluded only yesterday – during a time when the football world is fully focused on the European Championship in Germany.
In the playoff final for promotion to La Liga, Espanyol faced Real Oviedo. The Barcelona team, led by two goals from Javi Puado, triumphed 2-0, advancing to the top tier with a 2-1 aggregate win despite losing the first leg in Asturias.
In addition to Espanyol, who are familiar faces in the Spanish elite, Valladolid and Leganes had already secured their spots in La Liga.
From La Liga, three Andalusian teams were relegated in the 2023/24 season: Cadiz, Almeria, and Granada.
