Barcelona is monitoring 17-year-old Luka Vušković, who has yet to make his Tottenham debut. The Croatian defender’s future could depend on Spurs’ summer transfer plans.

Luka Vušković, one of Europe’s most promising young defenders, could leave Tottenham Hotspur before even making a senior appearance. The 17-year-old Croatian talent, currently on loan at Hamburger SV, is attracting serious attention from Barcelona, according to reports from Germany.

The Hamburg Morgenpost claims that scouts from several European giants watched Vušković during HSV’s 2-1 win over Stuttgart at the weekend, with Barcelona being the most determined in their pursuit. The Catalan club reportedly views him as a potential cornerstone for their future defensive rebuild.

“Almost all European giants are monitoring Vušković, but Barcelona stands out in particular, as they are looking for reinforcements in the heart of defense for next season,” the newspaper reported.

Tottenham signed Vušković from Hajduk Split but have since loaned him out three times — to Radomiak in Poland, Westerlo in Belgium, and now Hamburg in Germany. Despite his strong development abroad, questions remain over whether he features in the long-term plans of Thomas Frank, who took over Spurs this summer.

German media suggest that Vušković’s representatives will soon meet Tottenham’s management to clarify his role. If Spurs cannot offer him a clear pathway into the first team, a permanent move could be on the table — and Barcelona are ready to step in.

The Catalan giants are preparing for a defensive overhaul next summer, with Andreas Christensen’s contract set to expire and uncertainty surrounding the future of Iñigo Martínez. Vušković, who combines physical power with impressive technical skill, fits Barcelona’s long-term recruitment profile perfectly.

For Tottenham, losing one of Europe’s brightest young defenders without a single senior appearance would be a major setback — but for Vušković, a move to Camp Nou could accelerate his rise to the elite level many expect him to reach.
