Barcelona have made Nico Williams their top transfer target and are pushing to sign the Athletic Club winger, who prefers the Camp Nou despite Bayern’s interest.
Barcelona are going all out in their pursuit of Nico Williams, the talented winger from Athletic Club, who has emerged as the Catalan giants’ dream signing for the summer transfer window.
After securing Joan Garcia from Espanyol, the Blaugrana are now fully focused on bringing in Williams, whom they have closely followed since his standout performances at Euro 2024. According to Fabrizio Romano, the 21-year-old’s top priority is joining Barcelona, and he is ready to do everything in his power to make the transfer happen.
Bayern Munich had also entered the race for Williams, but the player’s desire to join Barça, combined with support from club president Joan Laporta and new head coach Hansi Flick, gives the Catalans the upper hand—despite their ongoing financial limitations.
Barcelona are reportedly trying to negotiate an installment plan for the winger’s €58 million release clause, as the club looks to stay within financial fair play parameters. Talks with Williams’ agent and Athletic Club are ongoing this week, though a final agreement is not yet close.
The 21-year-old speedster, who contributed heavily to Athletic’s Copa del Rey win, is seen as a cornerstone for the club’s long-term rebuild under Flick. If the transfer is completed, Williams would bring flair, explosiveness, and balance to the left flank—a position Barça has been trying to reinforce for over a year.
