Bernardo Silva has prioritised Barcelona despite interest from Atlético Madrid and Juventus, but Hansi Flick still has doubts about the move.
Bernardo Silva continues to move closer to Barcelona.
After ending his long and successful chapter at Manchester City, the Portuguese midfielder has become one of the biggest names available on the market, and according to reports from Spain, his preferred destination is already clear.
Barcelona is his priority.
Spanish media claim the player and the Catalan club have already reached an agreement in principle over personal terms, while club president Joan Laporta and sporting director Deco strongly support the move and have long viewed Silva as an ideal addition to the midfield.
Only days ago, reports suggested Atlético Madrid had taken the lead in the race for the 31-year-old after making a strong push and offering significantly better financial conditions. Juventus also remained in the picture.
Barcelona’s entry into negotiations, however, appears to have changed the situation completely.
Now the decision belongs to Hansi Flick.
The biggest obstacle is reportedly not financial, but tactical. Flick highly appreciates Silva’s qualities, but there are doubts about whether Barcelona truly needs another midfielder when several options already exist in the squad.
The German coach reportedly remains unconvinced that Silva fits the profile the team currently needs most.
Inside the club, not everyone agrees.
Deco reportedly sees Silva as one of the best opportunities available this summer, especially because Barcelona would not need to pay a transfer fee. The Portuguese international is also valued for qualities beyond football ability.
Barcelona believe Silva would add leadership, experience and stability to one of Europe’s youngest squads, particularly after several experienced players left in recent years.
His versatility also strengthens his case.
Silva has played throughout his career as a playmaker, attacking midfielder, winger and deeper midfielder, making him one of the most flexible options available on the market.
Barcelona want him.
Silva wants Barcelona.
Now everyone waits for Flick.
