Barcelona could be closing in on one of the surprise transfers of the summer, with reports in Spain and Germany claiming the Catalan club has already reached a verbal agreement with Karim Adeyemi.

Attention has now shifted to negotiations with Borussia Dortmund, who are reportedly demanding between €30 million and €40 million for the Germany international.

According to Spanish media, the move is being strongly pushed by head coach Hansi Flick, who has admired Adeyemi for several years and believes the 23-year-old would be an ideal fit for Barcelona's attacking system.

Flick reportedly values the winger's pace, direct style and ability to beat defenders in one-on-one situations, qualities he believes would add a new dimension to Barcelona's frontline.

Adeyemi remains under contract with Dortmund until the summer of 2027, but the Bundesliga club is believed to be open to discussing a sale. With two years remaining on his deal, this summer represents one of the last opportunities to maximise his transfer value before entering the final stages of his contract.

Barcelona's interest in Adeyemi is nothing new. While he was still playing for Red Bull Salzburg in 2020, the Spanish giants reportedly attempted to sign him with an offer worth around €15 million, but the Austrian club rejected the proposal.

Since then, Adeyemi has established himself as one of Germany's most exciting attacking players and one of the quickest footballers in Europe.

During his time at Salzburg, he reportedly covered 30 metres in just 3.78 seconds, highlighting the explosive speed that has become one of his greatest strengths.

He also announced himself on the Champions League stage in spectacular fashion, winning three penalties in a single half during his European debut against Sevilla.

Adeyemi's international breakthrough also came under Flick. The current Barcelona coach handed him his senior debut for Germany, and the forward marked the occasion by scoring against Armenia.

If the transfer is completed, Flick would once again be reunited with one of the players he helped introduce to international football, this time as part of Barcelona's ambitious rebuilding project.
