Barcelona and French defender Clement Lenglet have agreed to terminate his contract, ending a six-year stint after multiple unsuccessful attempts to sell or offload the player.
Barcelona has officially terminated the contract of Clement Lenglet by mutual agreement, ending a six-year spell at the club that began in 2018 when he signed from Sevilla.
Lenglet, 29, had not been part of Barcelona’s long-term plans in recent seasons and spent the last two campaigns out on loan, most recently at Atletico Madrid. Despite multiple efforts, Barcelona struggled to secure a permanent transfer for the French centre-back due to his high wages and lack of strong market interest.
His contract was originally set to run until June 2026, but the two sides opted to part ways early. Lenglet made 160 appearances and scored seven goals during his time at Camp Nou, but his form declined after his initial seasons under Ernesto Valverde.
According to Spanish media, Lenglet is now expected to return to Atletico Madrid as a free agent. The defender made 34 appearances for Diego Simeone’s side in 2023/24 and reportedly left a solid impression during his loan spell.
