Speculation links Julián Álvarez with Barcelona, yet Atlético Madrid insists the Argentine striker remains happy in Madrid and will stay despite rising transfer rumours.

Julián Álvarez has become the subject of growing transfer speculation this week after reports linked the Atlético Madrid striker with a possible summer move to FC Barcelona.

Comments from the Argentina international sparked discussion across Spanish media, but Atlético leadership moved quickly to calm the situation and reaffirm their commitment to the 26-year-old forward.

Atlético sporting director Mateu Alemany addressed the rumours on Saturday and dismissed the idea of an imminent transfer.

“As happened with Antoine, he has a contract with us, and he will be with us. Julián clearly said he feels happy at Atlético and people interpret his words differently,” Alemany explained.

“He has four more years left on his contract, and we hope he stays much longer, even with a contract extension. I do not see any issue with Julián. The only real news is that his performances have been extraordinary.”

The comments came shortly after confirmation that investment group Apollo Sports Capital became the new majority shareholders of the club. Despite the ownership change, Atlético leadership insists the sporting structure will remain stable.

“It is a powerful investment fund that strengthens the project,” Alemany said. “The important thing is that they want the same management team to continue. I do not expect major changes in the short term.”

Álvarez has emerged as one of Diego Simeone’s most important attacking players this season, delivering strong performances in both La Liga and the Champions League.

Atlético now prepare for the decisive second leg of their Champions League Round of 16 tie against Tottenham Hotspur, holding a commanding 5-2 aggregate lead from the first match.

Alemany warned against complacency despite the advantage.

“How many comebacks have we seen in Europe? In football you always suffer,” he said. “Tottenham are a top team and finished fourth in the league phase.”
