Barcelona is set to secure João Cancelo from Manchester City with an initial loan payment of €8.3 million and a mandatory purchase option of €21.3 million in 2025.

Daily Star reported a few days ago that Barcelona is close to finalizing an agreement with Manchester City for João Cancelo. The deal involves a one-season loan for €8.3 million, with a mandatory purchase option of €21.3 million in the summer of 2025.

Meanwhile, the Montjuïc offices will collaborate on his salary, which is €8.5 million for the 2024-25 season.

It appears that Barcelona's sports management has accelerated their planning this week, with several transfer market leaks coming to light. Following news that interest in Nico Williams has cooled and that the pursuit of Dani Olmo remains active, Daily Star and Sport both agree that a deal with Manchester City for João Cancelo is nearly secured.

The British tabloid outlined the conditions a couple of days ago. Barcelona has offered a loan deal worth £7 million (approximately €8.3 million), with a mandatory purchase option of £18 million (approximately €21.3 million) at the end of the season. This structure brings the total close to the €30 million that City has been demanding, with payment terms favorable to Barcelona's budget.

Additionally, Barcelona's management, under Joan Laporta, will cover part of the Portuguese player's salary, which is €8.5 million for this season. This arrangement helps bridge the gap between the €29 million total and the €30 million initially desired by Manchester City. The Spanish newspaper noted that negotiations progressed significantly during the Soccer Champions Tour, where delegations from both clubs met in the United States.

According to Sport, João Cancelo has agreed to significantly reduce his wages in exchange for a long-term contract with Barcelona, expected to last until 2028 or 2029. Daily Star also mentioned that his relationship with Pep Guardiola remains very strained, making it unfeasible for him to join the Sky Blues' pre-season after his post-Euro vacation.
