After failed moves for Nico Williams and Luis Diaz, Bayern Munich have identified Malick Fofana as their new left-wing target, but Lyon wants €60 million despite financial struggles.
Bayern Munich have shifted their focus to Malick Fofana as their search for a new left winger continues, following failed attempts to sign Nico Williams and Luis Diaz.
Williams, long considered a top target, extended his contract with Athletic Bilbao until 2035, while Liverpool have no interest in parting with Diaz, who remains key to their attacking setup.
Now, Bayern’s attention has turned to 20-year-old Belgian winger Malick Fofana, currently playing for Lyon. Despite the French club facing a dire situation—threatened with relegation from Ligue 1 and a potential European suspension—they are standing firm on their valuation of the talented youngster.
Lyon reportedly want €60 million for Fofana, a price that has made talks difficult for Bayern and other suitors from both England and Germany. The club is unwilling to offer any discounts, knowing that Fofana’s stock is rising quickly.
Fofana joined Lyon from Gent in the summer of 2023 and enjoyed an impressive debut season in Ligue 1, registering five goals and four assists in 29 matches. His dribbling ability, speed, and flair have drawn comparisons to other elite wingers, prompting strong interest across Europe.
Bayern are determined to find a long-term successor to Leroy Sané, whose future in Munich remains uncertain. Whether they will meet Lyon’s steep asking price for Fofana remains to be seen.
