Bayern Munich is still interested in Roberto De Zerbi as a potential coach, while De Zerbi expresses uncertainty about aligning ambitions with Brighton's management.
Will Bayern Munich be the club to offer Roberto De Zerbi a chance on the coaching bench of a European giant? The Italian is no longer certain if he and Brighton's management share the same ambitions.
German media representatives believe that something might be brewing between Bayern and Roberto De Zerbi. The sought-after Italian coach has been considered by many competitive clubs this year, and at one point, it seemed almost certain that he would leave Brighton in the summer. Then the rumors died down, but much has changed since then.
Bayern is still looking for an expert to replace Thomas Tuchel in the summer, and there are not many suitable candidates.
Additionally, De Zerbi recently highlighted that he and Brighton are not yet aligned in terms of ambitions for the upcoming season. The Italian says he wants to aim as high as possible and will need the club's support to do so.
"I don't have any other club behind me, and these things don't influence my decisions. I've always been very honest about that. But if I stay at Brighton, I want to progress and raise the bar higher every season. We still need to discuss this with the club," said the 44-year-old De Zerbi, who has been managing the Premier League club since 2022.
De Zerbi was also mentioned several times during Bayern's assembly earlier this week. It wouldn't be a surprise if he ends up in Germany.
For him, it would be a new experience. In Italy, he has coached Palermo, Benevento, and Sassuolo, then he led Shakhtar Donetsk for a year before taking the job at Brighton in September 2022, under whose guidance the club qualified for European competitions for the first time. Brighton currently sits in tenth place in the Premier League standings, where they are likely to finish this season.
De Zerbi is known for his modern football approach and is considered a forward-thinking strategist. Will he finally get the opportunity at Bayern?
