Bayern Munich are set to sign German international Jonathan Tah from Bayer Leverkusen before the Club World Cup, with talks ongoing for an early release ahead of his contract expiry.

Jonathan Tah appears to be on the verge of becoming Bayern Munich’s first summer signing, with the 29-year-old defender reportedly agreeing to join the Bundesliga champions once his contract with Bayer Leverkusen expires.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Tah has already given the green light to the move. However, Bayern are pushing to finalize the deal before June 30 so he can be registered in time for the upcoming Club World Cup in the United States, which kicks off next month.

While Tah is technically a free agent at the end of the season, Leverkusen would need to release him early for him to join Bayern’s Club World Cup squad. That could require a financial gesture from the Bavarians, who may opt to pay a nominal fee to secure his early arrival.

Leverkusen’s title-winning squad is breaking apart rapidly. Coach Xabi Alonso is leaving, star playmaker Florian Wirtz is being targeted by Premier League clubs, and full-back Jeremie Frimpong is in talks with several top European teams. Now, Tah looks set to depart after nine years at the club.

For Bayern, Tah would provide much-needed experience and stability in central defense following a turbulent season. The club sees him as a leader both for domestic competition and their Club World Cup campaign.

Expect confirmation soon, with Bayern hoping to make Tah their first official reinforcement before July.
