Lothar Matthäus claims Harry Kane appears “not particularly happy” under Thomas Tuchel or England’s current setup, despite Bayern’s 10-0 Club World Cup opener.
Harry Kane’s mood and form have come under the microscope after Bayern Munich’s 10-0 demolition of Auckland City in the Club World Cup, where the England captain was notably absent from the scoresheet.
Legendary Bayern figure Lothar Matthäus offered a scathing assessment, telling Sky Sport Germany that Kane doesn’t seem to be enjoying his football under Thomas Tuchel—and even less so while away with England.
“He doesn’t seem particularly happy under current coach Tuchel—just as he was under his predecessor Southgate,” Matthäus said. “At Bayern, the priority is fun, joy, and attack. At England, it’s like football isn’t even being worked on at the moment.”
Kane, who recently scored for England in matches against Andorra and Senegal, is back with Bayern for the tournament in the U.S., but looked out of sync in the team’s first outing. Matthäus also commented on Kane’s “body language,” noting it shifts dramatically between club and country duties.
The former Spurs striker will have another chance to open his account on Friday when Bayern face Boca Juniors in their second group stage match.
