Bayern Munich are pushing to extend Dayot Upamecano’s contract beyond 2026 as Real Madrid and PSG circle with serious interest in the in-form French defender.

Bayern Munich are racing against time to secure a long-term future for Dayot Upamecano, who has become one of Europe’s most sought-after defenders following a stellar season. According to Sky Germany, both Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain have approached the 27-year-old’s representatives to test the waters over a possible move.

Upamecano joined Bayern in 2021 from RB Leipzig and has developed into one of the team’s defensive leaders. His current deal runs until June 2026, which means that time is working in his favour — and in that of his suitors. Both Madrid and PSG are monitoring the situation closely, aware that a free transfer in two years could make the French international an even more valuable target.

Bayern are reportedly preparing an offer to extend his contract until 2030 or 2031. However, negotiations are not progressing smoothly. The club’s management knows they face an uphill battle, as Upamecano’s performances this season have dramatically raised his market value.

The centre-back is aware of his growing leverage. If Bayern fail to reach an agreement soon, he could exploit his contract situation to secure a higher salary — or even explore a move abroad. Both Real Madrid and PSG view him as a potential cornerstone of their future defensive lines, particularly as both clubs continue to refresh their squads ahead of next season.

Upamecano’s current campaign has been one of the best of his career, combining power, pace, and composure at the back. For Bayern, losing him — especially to another European giant — would be a major setback. Talks are expected to intensify in the coming weeks as the German champions attempt to fend off interest from Madrid and Paris.
