Vincent Kompany revealed that Bayern’s title celebrations briefly turned chaotic after he accidentally left the Bundesliga trophy at home.
Championship celebrations usually produce unforgettable images.
Open buses, crowds in city centres, players singing into microphones and trophies held high above heads.
This year, Bayern Munich added something else to the tradition.
They almost celebrated without the trophy.
After securing another Bundesliga title, Bayern followed the familiar route through Munich with celebrations, official receptions and thousands of supporters gathering to welcome the champions.
Everything seemed perfectly organised.
Until someone suddenly realised one important detail.
The Meisterschale was missing.
And nobody knew where it was.
The unexpected hero of the story ended up being coach Vincent Kompany, although not in the way people expected.
The Belgian later explained how the confusion started.
"We were here, and suddenly the trophy was nowhere to be found. Then I remembered: 'Oh, it's at home.' It was lying on the kitchen counter! I completely forgot that someone had handed it to me the night before and said: 'Vinnie, bring it tomorrow.'"
The moment of realisation apparently came while Kompany was already travelling toward Marienplatz, where Bayern’s official championship programme was about to continue.
Inside the city hall, players and club officials were preparing for the formal reception hosted by Munich mayor Dominik Krause.
Only one problem remained.
The most important object of the day was still sitting at Kompany’s home.
Fortunately for Bayern, rescue arrived quickly.
Kompany revealed that his wife, Carla Higgs, stepped in and brought the trophy into the city centre before the official ceremony reached its climax.
The Meisterschale reportedly entered the hall while club president Herbert Hainer was speaking, saving everyone from what would have become one of football’s strangest celebration moments.
Instead of embarrassment, the story quickly turned into something supporters loved.
Because even at clubs built around precision and structure, title celebrations still create chaos.
For Kompany, the moment became another memorable addition to an already successful year.
The Belgian collected his second Bundesliga title with Bayern and still has another opportunity to add silverware when Bayern continue their pursuit of the domestic cup.
One thing is certain now.
Next time somebody hands him a trophy and says bring it tomorrow, he probably sets an alarm.
