Cameroon FA president Samuel Eto’o delivered a powerful dressing-room speech after Cameroon’s AFCON quarter-final defeat to Morocco, urging pride, dignity and belief in a stronger future.

Samuel Eto'o, president of the Cameroon national football team federation, delivered an emotional and motivational speech to the players in the dressing room after their 2–0 defeat to Morocco national football team in the quarter-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations.

The legendary former striker addressed the squad personally following the elimination, offering comfort, pride and a clear message about dignity and future ambition.

‘Be proud of what you did’

Eto’o began by acknowledging the pain of defeat but urged the players not to lose sight of what they had achieved.

“Seeing you sad brings tears to my eyes, but I will try not to cry,” Eto’o told the players.
“I want you to be proud of yourselves and of what you did during this tournament. You must be proud. Above all, there are many emotions, but let us remain dignified as Cameroonians and avoid making explosive statements.”

He stressed that the strength of the national team lies in unity.

“You are our first strength — this group. I want us to remain the group that made us dream. Personally, thank you very much. I know that millions of Cameroonians are proud of you and of what you have shown.”

Dignity above controversy

Eto’o also appeared to reference refereeing controversies surrounding the match, insisting that restraint and dignity must prevail.

“Regardless of today’s result, we saw a team of men and a team of Cameroonians,” he continued.
“Prepare yourselves, because this is a new beginning. You will now be expected to deliver. We will not do less than what we showed at this tournament — not less. This is a sad moment, we all wanted to go further, but football is like that. We accept it, calm our emotions and stay dignified. No statements.”

Praise for the coach and a bold promise

The former Barcelona and Inter striker also paid tribute to head coach David Pagou, who was appointed shortly before the tournament began.

“Thank you for accepting this difficult but beautiful mission. You carried it out as a true Cameroonian. I can only be proud of you,” Eto’o said.

Despite Cameroon failing to qualify for the next World Cup, Eto’o made it clear that his focus is firmly on the future — and he did not shy away from bold promises.

“This is only our first victory,” he concluded.
“At the next AFCON in 2027, we are coming to win it. Listen to me carefully and start preparing today: we will take our revenge.”

The speech has since circulated widely on social media, drawing praise from supporters who see it as a reminder of Eto’o’s enduring influence on Cameroonian football — now from the boardroom rather than the pitch.
