Beckham and Neville finalize Salford City takeover in League Two

Salford City have officially confirmed that an ownership group led by David Beckham and Gary Neville has completed its full acquisition of the League Two club.

Beckham, who grew up in Salford, expressed his emotional connection to the club and its community. “Salford City is at the heart of its community. I have such fond memories of living there. I’m delighted to be a part of the next chapter,” he said in the official announcement.

Former Manchester United teammates Beckham and Neville are joined by prominent business figures including Declan Kelly and Lord Mervyn Davies, who will serve as co-chairmen. Other stakeholders include Dream Sports Group, Nick Woodhouse, and Shravin Mittal.

Neville added: “This is a unique partnership with diverse expertise, united by a love of football. Football will come first, but our goal is to make Salford City financially sustainable within 4-5 years. I can’t wait for the next part of this journey.”

Salford City, nicknamed the Ammies, finished eighth in League Two this season, bouncing back from a disappointing 20th-place finish in 2023-24. Their highest league finish remains seventh, achieved in the 2022-23 campaign.

The full acquisition comes at a time when ownership narratives in the lower tiers of English football are gaining global attention—most notably through Wrexham AFC, co-owned by Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney. Wrexham recently secured a historic third consecutive promotion, advancing to the Championship after starting in the National League just two years ago.
