David Beckham says the only coaching role he'd consider is managing England, admiring Gareth Southgate’s rise and saying he'd need 10 years to feel ready for such a job.

David Beckham has revealed that the England men’s national team is the only side he would ever be tempted to manage, calling it his “dream job” and something he could see himself pursuing in the future.

The Manchester United and England legend has remained on the sidelines of coaching since retiring in 2013, instead focusing on business ventures and co-owning MLS side Inter Miami. But now, he’s opened up about what might lure him into the dugout.

"The only job I would ever think about would be to manage our country," Beckham said on his CBS show, via the Daily Mail. "I could manage England in 10 years' time. That’s what it’ll take."

Beckham emphasized that he wouldn't want to skip the queue, respecting those who’ve earned their way into top coaching jobs. "I wouldn’t want to just jump straight into that role. It’s a disrespect to some managers who’ve been doing it for a long time and deserve that role."

He praised Gareth Southgate for his development work within the FA system, saying: "The reason this team has done so well under Gareth is because he had them from a young age. They trusted him, loved his gentle approach and how he brought the nation back together."

Beckham also applauded Southgate’s knighthood, adding: "He deserves that because of what he did for our national team and fans. In my opinion, our fans are the best in the world."

Though he continues to shy away from club management, Beckham’s words hint at long-term ambition, with England as his only exception.

For now, his focus remains on Inter Miami and their preparation for this summer’s Club World Cup in the United States. Beckham himself is also reportedly set to receive a knighthood for his contributions to football and philanthropy.
