Benfica has officially confirmed Jose Mourinho's departure to Real Madrid, revealing that the Spanish giants will pay €15 million to activate the coach's release clause.

Benfica has officially confirmed the departure of José Mourinho and revealed exactly how much Real Madrid will pay to bring the Portuguese coach back to the Santiago Bernabéu.
Unlike most high-profile coaching departures, Benfica chose complete transparency. In an official statement published on the club's website, the Portuguese giants disclosed the financial details of the agreement that will see Mourinho return to Madrid.
Benfica confirms €15 million agreement
The Lisbon club announced that Real Madrid had formally informed Benfica of its intention to activate the coach's release clause.
"Sport Lisboa e Benfica – Futebol, SAD informs that Real Madrid CF has officially expressed its intention to hire coach José Mário dos Santos Mourinho Félix for the sum of €15,000,000, which corresponds to the buyout clause in his current sports employment contract, with the coach having given his consent to this employment," Benfica stated.
The Portuguese club also thanked Mourinho for his work and wished him success in the next stage of his career.
Mourinho already planning Real Madrid's future
Although the formalities are still being finalized, Mourinho is already heavily involved in planning for the new season.
Reports from Spain suggest the 63-year-old has been working closely with president Florentino Pérez and the club's sporting department on transfer targets and squad planning.
Real Madrid is expected to be one of the busiest clubs in the transfer market, with several arrivals and departures anticipated before the new campaign begins.
The club has already been linked with multiple defensive reinforcements as Mourinho prepares for his second spell in charge.

Mourinho previously managed Real Madrid between 2010 and 2013, winning La Liga, the Copa del Rey and the Spanish Super Cup.

Marco Silva will take charge of the Portuguese giants after ending his successful five-year spell at Fulham.
The 48-year-old brings extensive experience from both Portugal and England, having previously managed Sporting, Estoril, Olympiacos, Hull City, Watford and Everton.
