RB Leipzig name Ole Werner as new coach. The 37-year-old must help Benjamin Šeško reach his potential after an inconsistent season.
RB Leipzig have officially announced Ole Werner as their new head coach, bringing in another representative of Germany’s new generation of managers.
German clubs have long embraced young tacticians with modest playing backgrounds — just look at national team boss Julian Nagelsmann. Now, Leipzig are following suit after a disappointing season, handing the reins to the 37-year-old Werner, who joins from Werder Bremen.
Werner’s exit from Werder was messy. The club dismissed him just before the end of the season after he refused to extend his contract. That led to a drawn-out negotiation between Werder and Leipzig, but both sides finally agreed on a deal, and Werner has now signed on officially.
In his last campaign, Werner guided Werder to a respectable eighth place in the Bundesliga. At Leipzig, however, the expectations are higher — and crystal clear: unlock the huge potential of a squad full of Europe’s rising stars, Benjamin Šeško chief among them.
"We’re convinced he’s ready for the next step and we’re looking forward to planning the team’s future together," said Leipzig sporting director Marcel Schäfer.
Werner, who ended his playing career at just 21, has since dedicated himself fully to coaching and had been in charge at Werder since 2022.
