Nelson Deossa’s sudden absence from Betis lineups sparks controversy in Spain, with reports linking the midfielder to Joaquín’s daughter and possible internal tensions.
Real Betis find themselves at the center of a growing media storm after reports emerged linking Nelson Deossa to the daughter of club legend Joaquín.
Spanish outlets claim the Colombian midfielder has been absent from the team in the last four matches, raising questions about whether his omission is purely sporting or something more.
The speculation intensified after Deossa was repeatedly seen in public with Daniela, Joaquín’s eldest daughter, with reports suggesting the two have been enjoying nights out together in Seville.
The timing has only added to the intrigue, with many in Spain questioning whether his absence from the squad could be a form of internal “punishment”.
So far, Betis have remained silent on the issue.
Head coach Manuel Pellegrini has not addressed the rumors and is said to have made his decisions strictly on sporting grounds, giving more opportunities to other midfielders in recent matches.
Both figures at the center of the story have responded publicly.
Daniela dismissed the speculation on social media.
"People clearly don't know what to do with their lives, that's why they have so much to say about yours."
Deossa chose a more provocative tone.
"Today they say anything. Whether they say good or bad, the important thing is that they talk about you."
The situation is even more surprising given Deossa’s importance earlier in the season. After arriving from Monterrey for more than €13 million, he quickly became a regular, playing in 12 of the first 15 matches in early 2026.
Since then, his role has sharply declined. He has made 19 appearances in total and provided one assist, but in recent weeks, he has been limited to minimal minutes.
Despite the off-field noise, Betis continue to perform well. They currently sit fifth in La Liga, a position that keeps them in the race for European football, while also preparing for a crucial Europa League quarter-final against Braga.
Whether the controversy will have any long-term impact on the squad remains to be seen, but for now, the story continues to dominate headlines in Spain.
