Boca Juniors are reportedly close to securing the signing of 22-year-old Argentine winger Alan Velasco from FC Dallas in a deal that could set a new financial benchmark for the club.

The most expensive transfer in Boca’s history remains Juan Roman Riquelme’s return to La Bombonera in the 2008/09 season for 12 million euros. Boca has rarely spent heavily, with Riquelme’s transfer being the only instance where they paid at least 10 million euros for a player. However, this could soon change, according to reports from César Luis Merlo.

Merlo claims that the deal for Velasco is nearly finalized, with Boca set to pay a fee of around 10 million euros. Velasco, a product of Independiente’s academy, was seen as a rising star before his move to MLS. However, his progress has been hindered by injuries, limiting his game time last season. Despite missing much of the campaign, he returned late in the season and managed to score twice in just eight appearances.

It’s worth noting that Velasco didn’t complete more than 70 minutes in any of those eight matches. Boca Juniors are betting on his potential, hoping that the talented winger can reignite his career in Argentina. Should the deal go through, it would mark a significant investment for Boca, emphasizing their intent to strengthen the squad for future domestic and continental competitions.
